Kings go to Big Apple
Columbus-The all lesbian drag king troupe H.I.S. Kings is hitting the road for their biggest out of town adventure to date. The fun starts on March 26 as the Kings and their guests leave town headed for the Big Apple. The Kings, friends, and staff of their company, Fast Friday Productions, will arrive in New York March 27 for a two night stint at the East Village dyke bar Meow Mix.
Fast Friday has put together a travel package for friends and fans to join the Kings for their New York debut. Package plans cost $215 each and include travel on chartered vans, shared hotel accommodations and club passes to both shows. Contact Sile at 614294-6088 or Julie at 614-262-3125 by March 8 to make reservations for the trip.
As for the shows, fans can expect to see the kings perform a wide range of numbers, including favorites like Garth, Elvis, Marvin Gaye, and of course a couple of group numbers likely to include “Whip It” and “Diamonds are a Girl's Best Friend." Despite an already happening drag king scene in New York City, producers are sure drag king devotees in New York have yet to experience drag in the style of H.I.S. Kings' performances. Callaway sings Ella at reception
Columbus-Hundreds of dollars were raised for the Columbus AIDS Task Force at two post-concert receptions which featured the versatile singer-songwriter Anne Hampton Callaway.
The first reception took place on February 20 in the piano bar at the gay-
themed restaurant Out On Main, after her performance with the Columbus Symphony Orchestra. Callaway crooned. and scatted some of Ella Fitzgerald's greatest works to the over 200 fans and friends present. She also didn't miss the opportunity to comically address the oft-disrupted "town meeting" on Iraq at Ohio State University.

The next night, Callaway returned to Out On Main to attend a reception for the Human Rights Campaign. The reception, in the Renaissance Room, featured pianist Peter Larson and vocalist Debra James Tucker. The reception was held to honor the host committee members who are playing important roles in the upcoming HRC Columbus dinner on June 20 at Valley Dale.
